Ward Helps Boost Hospice Fundraising with Festive ‘Treecycling’ Campaign

Recycling and waste specialist Ward again stepped in to support Treetops Hospice with its annual Christmas Treecycling initiative. Combined efforts of volunteers and local business helped smash last year’s fundraising total, raising an incredible £24,000.

The popular scheme invites residents to register their preloved Christmas trees for collection in return for a charity donation. All funds raised are then used to support the hospice’s vital work in providing care in the community.

During the campaign, Ward processed around 1,300 preloved Christmas trees, 200 more than the previous year. This year the team collected 10.46 tonnes, an increase of over three tonnes in 2024.

Covering the cost of transport and processing at its Ilkeston site, Ward has helped the charity save more than £2,400, maximising the benefit of the donations, increased by £6,000 compared with last year.

The Christmas trees’ final destination is a biomass facility which uses renewable fuels for energy production.

Kevin Deller, National Construction Waste Manager at Ward, said: “It was great to be involved in the Treecycling campaign again this year, supporting with transport and tree processing at our state-of-the art facility in Ilkeston.

“We always look forward to supporting the Treeycling initiative and worked closely with Treetops to see how we could generate even more funds this year. We’re proud that our efforts paid off and this year we collectively raised even more money that can go directly towards helping those most in need.

Victoria Rocca, Relationships Manager – Key Events at Treetops Hospice, said: “We are so grateful for the support received from all our volunteers and local businesses, including Ward. We couldn’t run the campaign without them and are thrilled that we smashed last year’s total – it’s such a great example of the community pulling together.

“Ward’s generous contribution to the campaign, particularly the transport services that ran so smoothly, meant we could raise a fantastic amount for the hospice while supporting the public in recycling their unwanted Christmas trees in a sustainable way.”
